Albania has only one Polytechnic University and it is located in Tirana.
This is the school where I spent five years and a half to become an electric engineer.
The building is an old Italian architecture, build in the late 30`s it was military academy at the time. It is divided in two parts, the left one where the Mechanical Faculty is, and the right one is the Electrical Faculty. This last one I know as my pockets J .
Everyone knows that Engineering is a very difficult faculty, I totally agree on this. What make it more difficult are the lack of the laboratories and the total absence of the practical sessions.
We used to study with books made in the in the 50`s.even the apparatus in the laboratories (if they could be called laboratories) were the same age and half of them is not functional.
The classrooms are occasionally with broken glasses windows and mostly without electrical lighting.
But I still love this faculty. This is where I was for five years learning, and I can say that they were one of the most beautiful years of my life, even though sometimes I had a very difficult moments with exams or project deliveries but who hadnt? J
I was enrolled in the Electrical Faculty and in Albanian Airlines in the same time. And I continued with both, the learning and the working on the same time. The first three years were very difficult for me I used to get up at 6 in the morning and go in class, at 13 had to be ready near my faculty where the company car would pick me up and go in airport to perform the assigned flight. I used to arrange the flights in the afternoons and in the Sundays/Saturdays and in the national holidays. So I could go in school and follow the class without problems. As I said the first three years were a bit difficult, after that I used to handle everything more easily. Actually I still don`t know how it was possible for me to finish the studies and continue with such a job at the same time God knows only.I think God helped me, and too much.
Anyway in June 2004 I graduated as Electrical Engineer after quitting with Albanian Airlines in March 2004 already because I found a better job at Diners Club Albania the credit card company. I thought that now that I finished the University it was time for me to find a real job and to start a real career, more related to my education, rather than being a flight attendant. Actually I would have preferred to work as electrical engineer which is my real profession, but even as Chief Authorization`s and Credit Control Office at such a big company as Diners Club I don`t feel very bad I know many people would not agree with this, but this is how I think. You can`t be a flight attendant for life!
